Many of the greatest scientists of our past were not merely mathematicians or physicists or biologists – but they were creative artists in many fields – from physics to art, biology to astronomy.  Take Leonardo Da Vinci for example, he was a painter, sculptor, architect, musician, mathematician, engineer, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, and a botanist – but most of all he was an inventor and he was creative. And he was not alone – many scientists of older times were the same – they created and invented in several fields –Benjamin Franklin, Charles Darwin, Isaac Newton, Aryabhata or Jagadish Chandra Bose to name just a few.

There is a world out there that is waiting to be explored, and our attempt is to bring some of the excitement of exploring science to children growing up in an increasingly data and fact filled world. We want to take the children beyond the world of books, the four walls of the classroom, and let them experience science first hand by working on simple experiments, and scientific concepts. Following the great Physicist Richard Feynman who once said “I cannot understand what I cannot create”.
Curiouscity has been created with the aim of promoting creativity in science amongst children. We believe that science is not merely a set of subjects filled with theory and equations, but that it is also a creative field of study. We attempt to get the children to create their own little moments of scientific discovery, their own little moments of WOW.

We deliver innovative, hands-on activities related to science, which are educational, as well as challenging and fun. While one cannot get away from a syllabus which has also its own place in learning, what we can do is to supplement the learning by helping fill the gaps left by such structured learning and offering kids the possibility of exploration and experimentation on their own. This is what we call "Creating Scientific Temperament" amongst children. We, at CURIOUSCITY, do this in an interactive, challenging, and fun filled way.

Dr. Shonali Chinniah : received her doctorate degree in Marine Ecology from Cornell University in 1997.  She has a wide and varied range of teaching experience, from teaching Undergraduate courses in American Universities and Science ICSE Syllabus for Pre University classes in India, to conducting educational tours at the New Jersey Aquarium and has even taught technical courses at SAP, a German software company. She has also worked with several NGO’s in India, teaching classes in science to less privileged children, including the school for the deaf in Indiranagar.   For the past two years she has been involved in creating science modules to teach children science with a “practical” rather than a “theoretical” approach to learning, and has been conducting science workshops for children in and around Bangalore.

Utpal Chattopadhyay : Utpal has a Ph.D. in Physics from State University of New York at Stony Brook, USA. He has held senior R&D positions in two of the world's most renowned technology organisations, AT&T Bell Labs, and Motorola. He is currently director of Anweshaa, an organisation that focuses on management and organisation development on one hand and Science and Technology education on the other. He has also given lectures and conducted workshops related to mathematics and science to high school students and teachers.

Sukanya Sinha : Sukanya has a Ph.D. in Physics from University of Maryland, USA. She has held research positions in University of Mexico, Inter University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune, Raman Research Institute, Bangalore, and Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Bangalore. She is currently Visiting Professor at ISI, Bangalore. A scientist with deep interest in science education, she has given lectures and conducted workshops related to mathematics, and science.

Dr. Jandeep Banga :  Jandeep has done his MBBS from Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla  in 1989. Presently he is Managing Director of ‘Banga Hospitals Pvt. Limited’ a company that runs few hospitals and diagnostic centers in the state of Himachal Pradesh.  Even though he got into medicine, he has always been passionate about teaching science in innovative ways.  He takes two weeks off every month from his work in Himachal to be in Bangalore and is actively involved in creating science modules and conducting science workshops for children.

Umesh Malhotra :  is a serial entrepreneur. He is an Ashoka Fellow and founder of Hippocampus Reading Foundation, an organization with the mission of making reading facilities available to disadvantaged children. Umesh also runs Hippocampus a library that promotes reading amongst children.  He has a passion for food and design and runs the Oye Amritsar chain of restaurants. Besides this, he serves on the board of Idenizen Smartware, People Health and on the advisory board of Dream-a-dream, a NGO that helps develop life skills in underprivileged children. Umesh has done his graduation from IIT-Madras and started his career with Infosys Technologies. He first became an entrepreneur with Bangalore Labs in 1999, a computer infrastructure services firm which was later sold by him in 2002.

Nema Lama : An educator with Curiouscity since 2010.  Nema is extremely creative and spontaneous with his classes.  He connects to the students, understands their doubts and comes up with amazing ways to demonstrate concepts to them. He is our Bangalore version of Rancho (Phunsukh Wangdu) from Aamir Khans “3 Idiots”.
